National Resistance Brigades Mourn Commander Saher Abu Leila, Martyred in Gaza Airstrike
Rafah, Gaza Strip – June 7, 2025 – The National Resistance Brigades, the armed wing of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, announced with deep sorrow the martyrdom of Field Commander Saher Jihad Abu Leila. A veteran leader in the Martyr Omar Al-Qasim Forces, Abu Leila was martyred at dawn on Saturday during the ongoing Al-Aqsa Flood battle following a targeted Israeli airstrike north of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip.
Abu Leila, a seasoned resistance leader, had long served as a key field commander in Rafah and was known for his unwavering commitment to confronting the Israeli occupation. His assassination marks a significant loss for the resistance forces, who praised his legacy of struggle and sacrifice against what they described as decades of brutal Zionist aggression.
According to the statement issued by the National Resistance Brigades, Abu Leila was fatally wounded in a "cowardly" drone attack, highlighting the continued use of targeted assassinations by Israeli forces amid the intensifying conflict in Gaza. His death, they declared, will not deter the resistance but instead reinforce their dedication to the fight for liberation.
In honoring their fallen commander, the Martyr Omar Al-Qasim Forces described the funeral procession as one of “pride and honor,” vowing to continue the armed struggle until the full expulsion of occupation forces from Palestinian land. “The blood of our commanders and fighters will be the fuel that strengthens our determination,” the statement emphasized.
Abu Leila’s martyrdom comes amid heightened military operations and a growing death toll across the Gaza Strip, particularly in the southern regions. His name now joins the long list of Palestinian commanders who have been assassinated while resisting the occupation.
As tributes pour in from various factions and Palestinian communities, calls for unity and resilience dominate public and political discourse. The National Resistance Brigades concluded their statement by reaffirming their commitment to resistance, saluting all martyrs, and promising that their sacrifices would not be in vain.
